As a taxpayer I'm ready and willing to help -- but only when the UAW agrees to take serious cuts from the $150K/year labor cost they have saddled the auto industry with.

I feel the same way. There was another article, saying that GOP asked that wages of Big 3 be brought in line with the transplants (still very generous $40s per hour including benefits) but UAW refused.
