PSINet Teams with Lucent, Bay Networks, and Bell Atlantic To Deliver EduGate Service PR Newswire - October 22, 1997 15:33 PSIX %CPR %MLM %PDT V%PRN P%PRN Turn-key Solution to Bring High-speed Internet Access to New Jersey Schools, Colleges, and Universities at Unprecedented Low Cost ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- PSINet Inc. (Nasdaq: PSIX), Lucent Technologies, Bay Networks, and Bell Atlantic today, during the New Jersey School Boards Exhibition and Workshop, announced the introduction of EduGate(SM). EduGate is a unique combination of Internet services designed particularly for the needs of state educational institutions. By bundling a collection of best-of-breed offerings, the EduGate initiative presents complete Internet solutions to schools at a price below $12,200. Lucent will serve as the primary distributor for EduGate. The solution combines PSINet Internet access, Bay Networks connectivity hardware, and Bell Atlantic switched multi-megabit data service (SMDS) connectivity services. EduGate, beginning in New Jersey, strives to assist the state's more than 600 school districts and learning institutions in applying the educational benefits of the Information Age. Commenting on EduGate's market impact, Karl Loriega, public sector analyst at G2R, Inc. in Mountain View, CA, said: "We believe that 1998 could be the year when Internet-based education comes of age, but this will require the support of strategic third-party organizations in areas such as connectivity, integration, and management. January will see the implementation of the E-RATE program, the Clinton Administration's $2 billion plan to subsidize Internet technology acquisition for the nation's schools, and strong support continues for existing programs such as the Technology Literacy Challenge Fund. Along with focused educational initiatives by companies like PSINet, Lucent, and Bay Networks, G2R believes that widespread educational benefits could be realized on an ambitious schedule," Loriega added. "The Internet has created a global educational platform, but the absence of complete cost-effective solutions, has limited the ability of educational institutions to participate," said Michael Odenwald, PSINet regional channel manager/major account manager for Lucent, in announcing the initiative. "EduGate removes cost as a barrier for widespread Internet use among our nation's educational institutions. The turn-key nature of this agreement not only delivers affordability, but also ensures reliability of the components and flexibility for future growth," Odenwald added. excellent article - thank you! i definitely see the trend. i'm selling more pc's and infrastructure products to more customers than ever before. i see friends, who didn't have a pc, buying them now.
this boom is good for all - especially those companies that play off the uptick in corporate pc growth [like coms, csco, bay - and another good play: rmdy - help desk software].
any others that could take advantage of the trend?
