They are good short term (day or so) trading vehicles. Not for investment purposes.

That was my line of thinking as well after the junior market got completely decimated I started trading more ETF's. My experience with ETF's although profitable has not given me anywhere the returns that I expected and now where near what they promise. Because I am using ETF's more as a trading vehicle I have been paying more attention to posters posting about them and reading articles relating to them. Seems to me although the fees are very low something isn't kosher and being the cynic that I am my view is they are skimming the profits. You can bet your last dollar they haven't set up these ETF's (and they are proliferating at a rapid pace) because they give a shit about you and me. They have been set up because it is lucrative for them and they are taking a cut whether the market goes up or down. That Financial Post article really hit a bulleye to my line of thinking. They are all crooks and we can consider ourselves fortunate if we can find a way to beat them at their game and at least put money in our own pockets. Even all this bailout shit they don't give a rat's ass about joe blow mainstreet this whole bailout bullshit is all about the big boys club getting back what they lost at our expense.
