GULF PRODUCTION MONITOR: December 15, 2008 Gulf production dropped nearly 800 MMcf/d this morning to 8.8 Bcf/d due to reduced volumes on Independence Hub. The Hub, which was flowing at 875 MMcf/d yesterday, dropped to just under 100 MMcf/d in evening flows. The company has not issued any outage notices and at this point it is unclear how long the hub will be at reduced volumes. One day declines of 366 MMcf/d and 311 MMcf/d did occur on 10/7 and 10/28 but a decline this large has not occurred since Hurricane Ike. Further updates will be available through a Bentek market alert and on Benport.

Enterprise Independence Line Shut for Hub Maintenance (Update2)
bloomberg.com

By Jordan Burke

Dec. 15 (Bloomberg) -- Enterprise Products Partners LP, the second-biggest U.S. pipeline partnership, shut the Independence Trail natural-gas pipeline while the Independence Hub that supplies it undergoes maintenance. The outage should last less than 24 hours, the company said.

The mono ethylene glycol, or MEG, supply is being replenished, Rick Rainey, a company spokesman, said in an interview today. The unit was shut down at 7:45 a.m. local time. The chemical cleans the pipeline and prevents the supplies from freezing during transportation, he said.

The line transports natural gas from the Independence Hub in the Gulf of Mexico. The Independence Hub, with production capacity of 1 billion cubic feet a day, accounts for 2 percent of U.S. gas supplies and represents 10 percent of deliveries from the Gulf, according to Enterprise.

The Independence Hub, located in 8,000 feet (2,438 meters) of water, gathers gas from 15 wells in the eastern producing area of the Gulf. Enterprise owns the pipeline and 80 percent of the Independence Hub, which is operated by one of the producers it serves, The Woodlands, Texas-based Anadarko Petroleum Corp. Helix Energy Solutions Group Inc., a Houston-based oilfield contractor, owns the remaining 20 percent of the processing platform.

Enterprise, also based in Houston, transports oil, gas and gas liquids through more than 35,000 miles of pipelines. Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP is the largest U.S. pipeline partnership by market value.

Enterprise shares rose 21.2 cents, or 1 percent, to $20.92 at 11:10 a.m. in New York Stock Exchange composite trading. The shares have dropped 34 percent this year.
