Why the hell should there be any overtime premiums, holiday and vacation pay? Just curious. Except for the overtime the answer is union contracts. Even the overtime is probably effected by the contracts, if they call for overtime pay in more circumstances than those minimally required by law, or to the extent that they reduce labor flexibility, sometimes forcing the company to have the same worker work extra hours when there is higher demand for a particular type of labor, or when someone else with the same specific job gets sick. If the workforce was more flexible and cross trained, there would be less need for overtime. If true, then change the requirement. I think mgmt is afraid of the union people. Don't want to get their hands dirty.
