Commodity play has a lot to do with it but I also like the fact that Canada is not in a recession, at least not yet. It sports a trade surplus. The government's budget is not a dog's breakfast, as it is here. Problems created by mortgage based securities are not nearly as prevalent in Canada. It has a financial system which seems reasonably well managed, unlike ours.

There is a lot to like in the loonie; its current status against the strong dollar is an anomaly that will correct as the dollar plunges. Given the strength of the Canadian system and the soon-to-diminish strength of the dollar, I see the loonie as poised for a run to the upside vis-a-vis the buck.
