I'd push it back a little further. The (R)'s started going bad with Reagan. He brought "supply side economics", the rape of the land, massive deficit spending, gigantic government military programs and appointing ideologues to cabinet positions.

Do the senators from Toyota, Nissan et al have any idea what the closing of 20 plants permanently will do to this country? Do they care? Of course not.......they just go on talking their book. Listen, I've said for a long time that their loyalty was more to their ideology than their loyalty to their country. This is just another manifestation. Before 2000, we did really well for many years with pragmatic Presidents, Rep and Dem. Things were really going great... nice incremental improvement year over year. In the economy and world relations. Then through stupidity (and I include myself) we elected these Neo ideological jerk offs. And they have virtually destroyed this country in eight years. And the worst part......they don't learn from their mistakes. Should they continue down their current road, they will eventually face extinction. That would be okay but they are trying to take us down with them.
