I kept seeing Cormac McCarthy recommended in Chronicles magazine so I picked up his Border Trilogy awhile back. It was interesting in that I know west Texas some, but at times I found his dialogue hard to follow. Those stories aren't bleak but they weren't all that engrossing for me either.

I listened to an unedited audio version of The Road last year. I liked it, you'll probably hate it. I picked up an audio version of No Country for Old Men from the same site. It's almost identical to the movie, just longer in places.
