Most people only have the haziest conception they are being screwed or that something is "off" with these schemes. Soundbite politics, an intentionally dumbed down citizenry that is obsessed--and pandered to--with consumerism, and the creeping intervention of government into every single facet of people's lives over the last 20 years...all have contributed.

I had Thanksgiving at my inlaws. There were about 20 of us, many with graduate degrees, and not one of them could articulate even generalities about reasons behind the current economic condition, let alone the reasoning or danger behind Fed machinations. I really just don't think it enters the average persons thought process.

NBC curently showing the Christmas Classic It's a wonderful Life What could be a more appropriate movie for December of 2008.

I really believe that the system will ultimately hold together.
As I mentioned to AG (in a PM). These markets and products and this complexity all stem from the advent of the Microchip and the explosion of the Information Age. These markets and products are manifestion of the Quantum leap forward in the Global Communication and the Information evolution. All these complex structures, CDS, CDO's.... are an overshoot of the information and communication explosion since the advent of the Microchip; PC's and all the attendant ways in which we can live our lives and conduct commerce around the world.

Dr. Spock and the Shatner had an interesting quote..... "Live Long and Prosper."
