The semiconductor industry is "poised for mass structural changes" on a
couple of accounts, Norrett said. Twenty-six of the 201 semiconductor
companies are fighting for 50% of the total chip market; 25 of the 26
companies are DRAM vendors, and the remaining one is Intel Corp.,
Norrett said. He told chip executives at the Dataquest conference he
wondered which DRAM vendor is going to give up on the market first.

The remaining 175 chip makers are "all under fierce pressure," he added.
