You're wrong Jim. I've owned ONE new car, a Toyota. That's when I learned the downside of owning a vehicle that requires full coverage insurance until it's paid off. I'd probably still be driving it if I hadn't wrecked it on Qualudes and booze.

Since then, all my cars have been used, fully depreciated, bought with no financing and minimally insured. Most of my cars have been closer to twenty years old.

I like to own a car, that if it does break down, I can just leave it and donate it to charity for the tow away. If someone steals it for transportation, I don't even call the cops ( except to disown it ) and assume they needed it badly.

I have always driven BMWs . A 1971 2002 was my first car. My father had a 1991 Buick Park Avenue- nice car one defect in 95,000 miles - flywheel reference sensor fault . They bought a new 1998 Mercury Gran Marquis and have driven it 102,000 miles he still has it a second car. The only fault was the plastic intake manifold cracked - leaked antifreeze and I replaced the alternator. It was never garaged and the paint looks like new and no rust. The Ford Crown Vic / Mercury Gran Marquis is not very exciting but it is well built & durable . My girlfriend has owned 3 Altima's one had a faulty subframe bushing and she lost control - she did multiple 360s on the highway but did not crash. The current one 2006 had a recall for the ignition module.
