People claim too much social conservatism (like Powell, Kathleen Parker - the "oogly-boogly" complainer, etc) is hurting Republicans. But how come this social conservative issue is able to win in a year when McCain lost? And win even in liberal CA? Social conservatism isn't dragging down the Republican brand, its MORE popular than the Republican party. Heck, they were able to get 71% of blacks in CA to vote for the social conservative side on Prop 8.
