Chevy announced the Volt a quite while back. I've seen one video on a running Volt. It was going about 10mph toward a reporter and his video crew, up a slight rise. It stopped before it reached him, and wouldn't go anymore.


Apparently, it can do better than that but top speed looks to still be 10 mph:

Meanwhile, a dozen other car co's have announced plug-in hybrids.

I guess my point was that there may be more than one solution to the problem, and frankly, I would not be in any hurry to put 'our eggs into one basket'. I would really like to see this electric network in place in a major city before deciding that's the way to go.
