Union work rules build inflexibility and higher costs into the manufacturing process. Can't just move people around where they're needed. In addition, the union contracts prevent the auto companies from bringing in good selling popular cars from Europe to meet domestic demand. That's true. I don't agree with everything in the union contracts and had I been a member of GM's mgmt I would not have agreed to them. I think we have an opportunity to correct those inappropriate provisions now. It will require compromise on both sides.
