I've been concerned that people will just quit buying stock

You need to stop spending so much time over on the Residential thread......some of those people are over the top on this bear stuff. I can't believe they routinely recommend bad, bad economic reports and bad earnings reports. Apparently, they have a lot of cash and they feel they will benefit from a depression. Frankly, its a rather sick POV.

There is no question the markets are fukked. Today was classic. The market was down big until 3:40 and suddenly some of the ultra ETFs cranked into gear and the Dow went up 100 pts in less than a minute. It happens all the time these days. Its really discouraging people from investing. And then there are the shorts. Cramer has figured out that back in Oct. the shorts went after the financials with a vengeance and that during their collapse 40-60% of the trading volume for stocks like C, BAC and JPM was made up of shorts pushing the stocks down. That's crazy. It gives the sense that things are much worse then they are.

I think the markets are slowly stabilizing. Its definitely a process. And btw, there is good news out there but it rarely makes the lite of day. There are companies reporting earnings that beat consensus and raise their outlook for next year....granted they are far and few in between.......but you never hear about them. Only the bad news......I think eventually that will change.

People have too much invested in the current system to let it go down......at least not without a good fight. That's why a partisan ideologue like Bush can be talking about bailing out GM. Time will tell but I think we'll get through this mess without experiencing the rapture and the end days. <g>
