China Shanxi Datuhe says US magnesium dumping rate to hit exports

Singapore (Platts)--12Dec2008

China's Shanxi Datuhe Coke & Chemicals expects the recent US anti-dumping
decision on pure magnesium to make it even tougher now to export to the US
market, a company official said Friday.
"We actually do not export directly to the US market currently, but we
were looking to develop and expand that market. Now this decision will make it
harder," he said. "We have not received any official notification about the
dumping rate yet, but we will review the situation after we get that."
In its latest review this week, the US Commerce Department decided on a
111.73% rate on the Chinese company's pure magnesium exports to the US, up
from a a preliminary finding of zero.
The administrative review covers Chinese pure magnesium shipments during
the period May 1, 2006 to April 30, 2007.
The Shanxi Datuhe official said the company did not ship directly to the
US, but "we also export through trading companies, and stocks could have
entered the US during that period via traders."
The company currently exports directly mainly to Europe, and via traders
to Asian markets, the official said.
Shanxi Datuhe produces about 10,000 mt/year of magnesium, of which about
5,000 mt is sold to the domestic market, and the remaining exported.
