He does ok for a while. He presents the rationale for the side he's taken. However, he doesn't know what to do when someone shows him there is a flaw someplace in his presentation, so he begins acting out. When called on his conduct, he doesn't know how to recover from his own embarrassing behavior and gets totally weird, spewing all kinds of hateful nonsense. The transformation from beginning to end is really astounding, in a pathetic sort of way.

I suspect the humiliation Steve is feeling this time is even worse than a year ago after he tried and failed to defend b. clinton, wrt clinton's treatment of women. He disappeared for a year after that one.
