Seriously - take it to the vet to put it down - a friend of mine who lives in the country thought he'd do it himself and has lasting memories as it didn't go to plan.

I will if it comes to that. I've done it both ways, but I prefer to let the vet handle dogs.

I really have been amazed at the progress with the behavioralist approach. At this point we can get him to essentially be still throughout the entire time the UPS/Fedex guy is here -- in the past, he would become unmanageable as soon as he heard the truck coming up the road.

The only problem is someone has to sit with him while the guy makes his delivery. But I think within a couple more months we could get past that. My daughter thinks we can get him trained to always move to a certain spot when he hears someone at the door or the truck turning up the driveway, which gives us control over the situation.

I still think an intruder at night would be ripped to shreds. I'm not sure whether there is much to do about that. It is strange as he wasn't always like this.
