During the time when we had those large families, homosexuality was classified as a mental illness. So adolescent experimentation was overtly discouraged and probably not as prevalent as today where it is celebrated and given positive sanction in the high school diversity clubs. Adult homosexuals were almost always closeted. There was no way to accurately take an account back in the big family days.
