You do realize that the UAW negotiated and entered into contracts that were destined to fail under all practical outcomes? Without the aid of a tightly controlled monopoly, pristine business plan execution and the power to levy and collect taxes from the masses, its actually amazing that the big 3 have made it this long.

Last time I looked GM had a negative $100 a share book value....you don't get in that situation over night.

And yeah, it's going to hurt. There was a time in this country where people got up off their duffs and moved to where the work was. Now, apparently it is acceptable to sit and wait for it to come to you. The Detroit area was a fine example of people moving in for better opportunities.....in fact, decades ago, a popular but not altogether joking theme by the long time locals had to do with how much better the area would be if "all the hillbillies went home with a black person under each arm". A thought pattern that was not overly PC, even back then.

We are at a cross roads time in our history.....subsidizing failure is not path that leads to prosperity. We will either compete or no longer be the land of opportunity.

They've been receiving $85.00 an hour for many years, I think they could handle some time without work...
