China Fines Samsung RMB 50 Mln for Patent Infringement marbridgeconsulting.com Sina Tech, 12/22/08 Hangzhou Intermediate People's Court has found Samsung guilty of infringing a GSM/CDMA dual-mode handset patent held by Holley. Samsung has been ordered to cease manufacture and sale of the devices and to pay Holley RMB 50 mln in compensation. Holley executive director Ge Chen revealed that "Samsung sold over 700,000 of the infringing handsets, and is still selling them. As we raised the case in early 2007, the compensation only covers a portion of the units sold," and that "Holley will continue to pursue Samsung for later economic losses." Editor's Note: Holley began the legal proceedings against Samsung on April 9, accusing the latter of infringing its patent on a GSM/CDMA dual-mode handset.
