No, we are not in deflation. If this turns into a persistent multi-year downward trend in overall price levels, then we will be in deflation. And if that happens it will be historic for the US where inflation has ruled for your entire lifetime.

For now we are in the midst of a gigantic price spasm. And in response we have the most inflationary policies ever conceived. As 10 to 20 trillion dollars of government economic bailouts unfold worldwide, and as government spending and our current account deficit rises up like a 300 foot wave on the open ocean, don't be so sure that you are best served by pretending that your finances are secure if you cling to a briefcase full of greenbacks.
