Thanks Onepath, Interesting, but it doesn't specify the nature of the help needed. I notice that today Flaherty is leaning on the banks to pass on the benefits of the government assistance they have received, by making credit more readily available.

I speculated recently about the return of the three year tax holiday period for mine start-ups. It's my recollection that the tax holiday period contributed largely to B.C. mine startups in past decades. Then along came the "Benson Iceberg" which killed it. Today's economy can no longer tolerate the effect of that Iceberg.... we need it back. It would probably even be tax accretive in that the new mine(s) would stimulate taxable activity. (I confess I am not sure what the material benefits of it would be)

Increasing the profitability of mines in the pay-back period would surely encourage the banks to loosen their purse-strings... to their profit advantage. Have you heard this mooted anywhere else ?

Geoscience B.C. has released new analysis of stream sediment samples for northern B.C. it hopes will spark more mineral exploration.
The data released includes analysis of sediment samples from 2,128 sties originally collected in 1978 for a provincial and federal geological survey in northwest B.C.
"We need exploration activity to generate the new mineral discoveries that will become working mines, creating jobs and generating income for our northern communities," said B.C.'s mining minister, Gordon Hogg.
