My father had his first stroke when I was in grade school. After that, the doctor put him on a low sodium diet. My mother promptly put the whole family on a low sodium diet. I didn't add salt to much of anything either.

My father amazes me. When he sits down to eat, before he even tastes his food, he picks up the salt shaker and shakes copious amounts of NaCl on his food.

He'd never have been selected for Rickover's nuclear navy.
