Global Warming is too big to fail. It is more of a political issue rather than of science. We are witnessing a sharp change - away from greedy individualism and towards a world where each of us will be aware that "we're all in it together". GW is a good rallying cry, as good as any; priorities and common goals can change and evolve over time, that's not important. What's crucial, is that we remain in a raised-consciousness altruistic mode. WTF knows... we may even like it.

I maintain the biggest risk to our economic future is environmental wackoism.

My biggest beef with the professional environmentalists, including the Sierra Club, is that they will not ever discuss immigration into the USA or population growth as considerations in improving the environment.

They typically will come up with stupid reasons. But the biggest reason is that they are not truly environmentalists. It is that their left wing ideals are not met since such discussions would be hurtful to diversity or some other higher ideal than the welfare of the environment.

I think you're exactly right.

People like Gore are making a fortune off GW scares.

That's the reason Pickens tried to get in on it.

Global warming/environmental/green BS is the new Wall Street disaster waiting to happen.

Too many people at the fore making---or angling to make----obsene amounts of money. And too many politicians solidifying their power base by accepting money from the money makers.

They sold the subprime mortgage mess by insisting that home ownership was a civil right.

They're selling green by insisting it's our moral duty to mankind and the planet.

Moral of the story: Beware of money making schemes dressed up in the garb of high-minded ideals.

Well gang - the idiots are coming to power. I maintain the biggest risk to our economic future is environmental wackoism

In a way, we should be thankful for the current recession. When times are tough, the idea of wasting money trying to obey Kyoto or some such nonsense gets a whole lot less attractive. I'm hoping for a lot of lip service and some government boondogles in green energy projects, and no more than that.
