They know the kids are going to play hard, rough and intend to win. Even at this age the emphasis is have fun BUT WIN! The problem is most kids playing hoops don't play football. So, you get the soccer family that's of the opinion that basketball is a non contact sport and that's just not true. Every kid gets to play half the game, we have no special weapons....we just play harder. These kids practice every week and before the games.....their remuneration is a WIN! <<What do you do about the complaints?>> Ignore them. They're stupid complaints anyhow. You'll hear "Hey thats a double team" or "they aren't playing man to man." Generally you don't hear a word until its about 20 - 4. NEVER have I complained NEVER. If we lose we lose regardless of what sport we're playing. Losing has as many lessons (albeit sucky ones) as winning. So, if these people want non contact, outcome based fun for their kids then have them take an art class. All week "the Grinch" song has been in my mind. Before the game I said to the boys - Ok dudes - we're going to hand out a yuletide butt kicking! This is Grinch ball. We're taking their stockings, presents, tree AND ROAST BEAST! They were totally into it - totally fired up - great mood....we played good clean ball!
