Microsoft is trying to stuff Windows CE(2.0) as an option for desktop devices. I know it cannot do everything VxWorks can do but for consumer oriented devices, CE may be enough."

IMHO, I don't believe so. Not today, certainly, and not enough in the mid-term future. I dont see Mircrsoft's CE threatening WIND's market share at all in any area. I see far more RTOSs embedded in a KaZillion devices other than palm-top and laptop devices - all to be happening in the near future. i.e. Say for every CE - PC sold, WIND will be selling a MILLION of their OS on "widgets" in serveral mutually exclusize market segments. Alot of CE-PCs will be sold. But a whole lot more of WINDs OS will be sold, for sure. And with the DSP market now wide open, ... dont even get me started...

Also. Its feasible and possible thats WIND's Partnering strategies link them together with several companies owning User Interfaces and Wo-La, we're then competing directly in MS's potential marketshare in DESKTOPs or Pawmtops. i.e. HP, GEOWORKS, GENMAGIC, SONY, SHARP all in partnership with Wind River. Just an thought.

SO WHAT IF IT AINT the MICROSOFT WINDOWS look and feel. As far as I am concerned, that look and feel is a dead issue in the CONSUMER market place for hand-held devices. Remember, by chance, MS's play into PEN COMPUTERS? It did'nt sell then. I believe consumers will be won easily over by competing systems.

Keep Smiling in the WIND...
