I too love the military presence.

Recently, a good friend passed on, a Vietnam vet, and the service was held in a park on Catalina Island. In marches a color guard in fatigues - an array of what you imagine a bunch of hippy-type Vietnam vets to look like - about 20 of them. Several had gray beards and goatees. I wondered where they managed to find so many vets to come over to the island for the service. They were in lock-step and fired the shots in unison, perfectly coordinated. Again, I was impressed with the discipline. Then I realized that I knew practically everyone of them - just didn't recognize them in the fatigues. All were Islanders who had served - the total complement of vets on the island.
