No, as I said isolationism accurately describes what you expect from "oil independence".

we could give the Middle East, Russia, Venezuela, and every OPEC cartel member the finger. We could pull out of the Middle East and just fund Israel to fight their wars over there. We could save ourselves the cost of future wars like Iraq and not be so meddlesome in the Middle East that we attract the attention of folks like Al Qaeda. Then the next time Iran or any other cartel member gets pissed and wants to create a supply shock to the oil markets, we could say "go ahead, make my day."

Engagement to me, means trade

But you want to eliminate trade with the ME.

and diplomacy, not military.

What kind of diplomacy is "giving them the finger"?

Isolationism to me means pulling back from diplomacy and trade. From that perspective, then Bush has been the most isolationist President in recent memory.

If Bush had actually pulled back from trade or diplomacy, but he didn't.
