These darned birds are so entertaining. This conversation reminds me of a camping trip I took with a friend. We were at a nice campground that sat in the deep woods and fronted a river. One day we were sitting outside and we heard what we thought was a crow. Then we heard a different sound coming from the opposite direction that sounded very much like a crow, but didn't. This back and forth bird chatter went on for quite awhile, and we heard many different caws and cronks and twitters and hisses etc.

Out of a deep curiosity, we got the field guide out and tried to identify the noises because we weren't sure if they were coming from crows or ravens.

In the end we decided that it was a crow and a Raven communicating with one another.

Crows say "Caw" and Ravens say "Cronk."

I saw this book at B & N the other day and it made me think of that trip.
