When the price was going through the roof they oil companies had to wait for weeks, sometimes months to schedule tankers. Now they are storing their oil in them as they wait till the tank farms are emptied enough to empty the tankers. That is what drives the price of oil. Futures can only bump it up a few dollars. Such as $144 to $150. Futures has little effect, just as options has little effect on stock price.
