Of course.

That might have resulted in some slight, albeit immoral, advantage for the average American.

But it is less reprehensible than the reason we actually did invade Iraq.

Iraq was the third largest producer in the world.

What would happen to the profits of big oil and the Saudis if we arranged to curtail the Iraqi production?

That is the Cheney vision embodied in the still secret "energy plan" that he and the oil cronies cooked up early on.

Serial record profits for the insiders.

Misery to the US military and taxpayers and the Iraqis.

But with a pliable idiot for a president and a Congress that could be easily fooled, mo money, mo money, mo money....

And that is exactly what has happened.....
