But it makes no sense to disparage a timetable for withdrawal now that sectarian violence in Iraq is at its lowest level in years.

I think Al is a reasonably smart guy (not to be confused with being "correct"), as many of these other lefties are.

One can only conclude that the "time table" issue is being presented disingenuously, for the reason you described. Al opposed the war -- not just Iraq, but Afghanistan, too -- on the basis that we should not respond militarily to the 9/11 attacks.

It is one thing to talk about "timetables" when you are losing the war, and quite another to talk about it once you have basically won the war and are just trying to figure out the best way to draw down troop levels post-victory. To somehow suggest that such a time table is equivalent to what Obama proposed is ridiculous, and only designed to appeal to the woefully underinformed.

Obama's time table was about walking away from the war in a way that would have cut the war effort off at the knees. And Biden's approach to breaking the country up into three chunks was just as idiotic.

Al, > I see...so AQ is not sitting and waiting for the deadline to come and go now, as they argued before the deal? C'mon...

For all we know, AQ could just be waiting for "Hussein" to be inaugurated next month.
