"My pastor is a fiery orator and sometimes he says things which are a little over-the-top. But I can't calculate all that he's done for our community. He's set an example for all of us by doing so much with his life. So I and my family certainly won't turn our backs on the Rev. Wright and our church family at Trinity United Church of Christ even if he did elect to shake his booty in front of the National Press Club."

He basically tried that. But the subject didn't die, and it shouldn't have.

I just cannot understand the logic, that after 20 years, you can just jettison your past by throwing someone under the bus like that.

That's all history now. Let's see how he runs the White House. If, four years from now, he has done a good job and has not been an extremist, then I think people have to be open-minded about it.

His position on the War on Terror is downright scary. But I do believe he's a fast-learner and by now, has probably had a a pretty substantial realignment of his attitude. By now, he understands he can't just pull all the troops out of Iraq and throw them into Afghanistan. It doesn't work that way. And I suspect he is realizing that there must be an ongoing offense or we will once again be attacked by extremists and it will be his problem to deal with.

People can argue that he doesn't "own" the economy. But he "owns" the war on terror. Bush has prevented further attacks. If, an hour after he's inaugurated, there is another attack, it is Obama's and his alone to explain.
