The vast majority of support for Prop. 8 came from many sources. The Mormon church was not named as a major funder, even though the opponents claim that Mormons contributed $20M to the cause (which I believe is an exaggeration designed to convince the ignorant). Basically, Mormonism is the religion people love to hate. And that suits the protesters just fine. Tenchusatsu
