Yes, preventing secession was wrong. If the south had been allowed to secede and slaves were freed in the north then I think at some point there would have been a massive migration of slaves to the north.

We know slavery is wrong and reprehensible.

Of course, it is useless to wonder what would the world be like if the Civil War had never happened. However, we know what happened to the world because the US rose to become the most dominant superpower in history. Millions have been suppressed, tortured and died because of our imperialistic policies around the world. Slavery is still alive and well in the US, albeit in a modified form. Is a poor black man in the drug infested south side of Chicago much better off than a farm slave in Virginia? Both need an underground railroad to escape their hellish bondage.

So what was the positive benefit of slaughtering over a million young men in the civil war?

If secession was still viable, a state like Montana could simply walk away from the bizarre policies coming out of DC. That would certainly help to keep politicians' power in check. Right now DC is just abusing the states and they have no recourse.

If the United States is so concerned with the state of the black man, why does Haiti exist in it's present form? It is because US corporate interests in the DR want Haiti in poverty in order to provide slaves for the sugar industry. Where is the outrage? This is 140 years AFTER the Civil War! Haiti is right off our coast. The hypocrisy is astounding.
