Interesting article. In viewing broad generic data, it is important to keep in mind a couple of things:
1 - tests using 32 bit applications and OS support limit performance of both Intel and AMD.
2 - Acceptability of VM performance in the real world is closely tied to performance as seen by the end user - things like respose time and individual query performance in DB apps trump overall server performance
3 - Both Intel and AMD work closely with MS on OS optimization, so Server 2008 64 bit numbers are more likely to showcase strengths of both systems than tests running older products like server 2003. What I have seen is that the older OS and apps hide many advantages of the newer parts and reduce performance differences especially in highly focused testing.
