OT: Roe, thanks, and merry christmas to you and your family, too... I should send you some of the photos I took of your family during that last recon... <ggg>

Leaving for the old home town after work tonight -- if the weather doesn't strand me someplace (for reasons I won't elaborate on, I'm having to fly a redeye through both LAX and hopefully ORD by 5 am tomorrow -- 3 flights and change plains twice)... it's weird how I can fly to some of the more remote places on the planet, taking 3-4 days sometimes (like out in the So. China Sea or some forgotten Malaysian island) -- no worries... but as soon as I book a stupidly simple trip to the midwest, suddenly I have all manner of weather issues, etc., and the anxiety runs high -- did I mention I hate crowds, esp. surly ones all stranded and clogging up O'Hare, fighting to get someplace?

The difference, of course, is that when traveling on biz, I don't give a flip about such things, but when it concerns a vacation trip? Completely different dynamic... <ggg)

Winter Forecast Update will Spread the Holiday Cheer

My page focuses a lot on the VA/NC region ... BUT!!! if I am right Winter has merely fired warning shots for the east.

Is the Atmosphere Planning a New Year's Eve Party?

sites.google.com

In summary: The coming of a Negative AO/NAO period means lasting cold in the eastern US. Furthermore the Atlantic is signaling a temperature pattern conducive to more Negative NAO than previously observed in November. Very new and important is the Negative EPO signal northeast of Hawaii which will increasingly support an eastern US trough as winter deepens.

It is difficult to temper my excitement about recent pattern and oceanic development as La Nina continues to strengthen also. Could she become strong enough to spoil the party? Good question....

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Dean

Roe: I have to say... accudean's forecast dated 12/16 was/is dead on as far as the midwest is concerned:
