The vast majority of support for Prop. 8 came from many sources. The Mormon church was not named as a major funder, even though the opponents claim that Mormons contributed $20M to the cause (which I believe is an exaggeration designed to convince the ignorant).

At one point during the campaign, the Mormons themselves bragged......I mean claimed that 35% of the money raised for proposition 8 came from them. I would call that a sizable contribution:

Basically, Mormonism is the religion people love to hate. And that suits the protesters just fine.

I don't hate Mormonism. I could give buckus about them. I am just very tired of religion playing such a big role in American lives. I want a secular country, not one like Iran.
