This is a bullshit answer and you either know it or you're dumber than you look. The fact is that the R&D cost of the Corolla versus the Prius are at least as disparate as those of the F150 versus anything else in the Ford lineup. The price of a Corolla starts at $15K...the price of a Prius starts at $22K...that's $7K more...do you understand? Have you ever seen a business case? ASP is set based on volume assumptions, burdened unit cost, NRE, SGA, and other overheard expenses, typically over an average lifecycle of 5 to 7 years, fixed expenses are amortized to determine IRR and time to money.
