Which is the way both of ours were raised, and they are both somewhere between agnostic and atheist.

But neither of them has a problem with references to God or religion in the contexts we've been discussing. It just doesn't affect them.

When he was younger, my son complained of feeling "pressure" from some of his friends. But never from the kinds of public environs you have mentioned. You simply take it or leave it.

Our country was built on religious freedom. Right-thinking atheists ought to recognize that they're as much the beneficiary of it as anyone. If we allow atheists to dictate that the government take an atheistic point of view, then their own atheism is threatened just as much as Christianity is.
