"If we can give $150 billion in welfare to AIG, then why can't we give $50 billion in welfare to the Auto Industry?" I would argue (in BOTH of those examples, especially!) that we should be investing the public's money to achieve the BEST POSSIBLE RESULT --- given the possibilities --- and not spend it just to 'kick the can down the road' and avoid the real problems... not really fixing ANYTHING, but just mostly wasting the money. We need to make fundamental changes, not just cosmetic patches.
