OT,

damainman,

<dental appliances and surgery do not cure apnea for most folk despite what the dentists and surgeons say>

True. I was pretty shocked to learn the low success rates for the surgery options. At the time I discussed this with my doctor, one of the treatments (RF) was irreversible and less than 50/50.

I was just lucky and losing that weight made just enough difference for me that I could avoid the CPAP.

Hopefully they will continue to advance treatment and someday you can escape the mask.

Good Luck
TH

I know a gal that is supposed to use the CPAP and her power was cut off.......we'd help her but she is beyond help now.................behind in every payment ..............home, garbage, water, power, cell phone and now her car. She has no health insurance. We helped her get into a car that was cheap; but, instead, she bought one that is $4000 more and used our friendship with the dealer to get the deal financed. Both her and the dealer had no business making the deal so we have to wash our hands of the issue now.

We feel badly but can't totally support her and her habit of living beyond her means. Her last car was a Jaguar and it was repo'd.

She also needs a breathing machine for asthma which requires power. We let her come to our place to use it ( we do have power ) but now she broke the device. I tried to fix it for her but realized she is missing a part in the device itself which channels the air supply across the surface of the liquid medication reservoir.

We seem to be a magnet for troubled people these days...............we have big hearts but are going to have to set limits. We can't bail out our circle of friends................seems "bail out" is what everyone is looking for these days.

Merry Xmas to all that are left standing................we need to help others but not at the price of being the local welfare office.

In the end.............who will bail out the ones that are bailing others out?

Who are the real fools here??
We're bailing out the rich and the poor.

There seem to be a number of people with Sleep Apnea on this thread so let me tell you about a breathing method I learned a few years ago that has helped my asthma. Its called the Buteyko method and was developed by a doctor in Russia.

Dr. Buteyko believed that many of the auto immune conditions like asthma, sleep apnea, allergies etc are caused by poor breathing. I know that sounds bizarre but I've learned a lot of breathing in the last few years and have come to realize that it can effect our health in many different ways.

In any case, there are some things he says one can do to reduce the effects of Sleep Apnea and other auto immune diseases:

1) don't breath thru your mouth esp. when you sleep.
2) never sleep on your back......best is on your left side, next right, next stomach but never on your back.
3)keep the room cool at nite when you sleep....overheating is bad while sleeping and will cause you to breath harder.
4) don't eat after 7 PM.........better to eat less meat and more fish and vegetables. Meat is harder to digest and worsens your breathing.
