Should that read something like... "...because of our heavy fees on oil production and crafty earmarking by our Senators we pay no state taxes..."

because of our permanent fund we pay no state taxes.<<

koan:

Where did you ever get that idea? I am very curious because it is dead wrong. Like 100% wrong. We earned every cent in our permanent fund!!

The reason we are in fat city, is that we saved and invested our money for our children!

The oil is on "state land", so we get a royalty. Like anyone who has oil on their land. And look at any state with lots of oil and you will see oil companies often have great influence over the legislature. They "buy legislators" with campaign contributions or just plain old bribery and seldom even pay fair taxes and royalties.

Our royalties and taxes have always been lower than they should be, because of the Republican's being in bed with the oil companies; as evidenced by the fact that law suits keep forcing our oil companies to pay back royalties, and taxes, of millions of dollars.

It was the dems, led by a liberal Republican, Jay Hammand, who got what we did get from the oil companies and forced the Republcian legislator's go along with the permanent fund and to set aside 25% of royalties from all natural resource's on our state land, for our children. 50% now I think.

Our establishing a permanent fund is what many states should have done over the years. But they squandered their wealth!!

We were the only ones that did it. And it was mostly the work and ideas of a bunch of 60's Hippies who figured it out. True. I know/knew most of them.

But the Republican's did make us give a big extra tax cut to the oil companies to get the legislation passed. We later repealed most of it after the Valdez oil spill.

And we fight the Republicans to this day, who are in bed with the oil companies. In fact, over the last two years about a dozen Republican legislators have been indicted or convicted of bribery from the oil companies, but not ONE dem!! They have video tapes of them taking bribes out of a fish bowel. And 20 legislator's have taken over $10,000 from the oil companies in campaign contributions just last year. 19 Republicans and one dem.

Think if other states had had enough sense to put 25% of their oil revenue in a permanent fund for their children, instead of taking it for themselves like a bunch of greedy children.

E.g. Texas, Oaklahoma or California.
