however; did not GWB, our soon past president call for an "ownership Nation" and push all those no or low regulation policies to make that possible, or am I living in a parallel USA? He did make noises about regulating Fannie and Freddie but then fired the guy who dared to attempt regulation. With the rest of the financial sector he really did look the other way.

Tim, I'm thinking that we had "capitalism" with PAID referees.

Even in capitalism you need somebody to "judge or appraise or give an independent opinion".

During this mess we had Moodys, S&P and Fitch to act as OBJECTIVE and INDEPENDENT arbiters to PROTECT the World from biased and imperfect evaluations of debt instruments.

They DIDN'T do that. They took the money and CHEATED.
