The one I recall was the ML750 8-way, which had as advertised features:
Hot Swap Cooling Fan|CPU|PCI Card|Power Supply
I don't know if the hot swap features were standard or optional, but I know how it worked - you open the cover, press a button, wait for the indicator to go from green to yellow, then unlatch the ZIF, pull out the CPU and VRM, replace them, push the button, and wait for the light to go from yellow to green. A miniport driver is needed to support the feature.

That isn't a CPU upgrade, it a blade (aka system) replacement.

At the end of the swaps, only original blades are in the system - the 'new' blades are just used to seed the swap process. I suppose it could also be done by migrating loads from a group of blades and using them as seeds.

In any event, it is easy for anyone with a little tech skill to swap processors within a compatible family without replacing anything else, and it does not take long.
