My point is that Intel never had a plan to leave x86. They were hiring teams for x86 in 2001 timeframe. But as I said, people never want to believe it, they want to believe that Intel was trying to push AMD out... how often does Intel redo their roadmaps, if they run into a problem such as heat with the P4 architecture, things change, I'm sure there were people who wished Intel would abandon x86, I think there are people who still wish it.

there may have been high level discussion but as long as the customer wanted x86 they were going to continue to deveop x86 mpus.
