Just FYI- when SAKS announced their big sale (Christmas day) I went to look online, and saw a bunch of excellent deals. I put a bunch of things in my shopping cart, but then I decided we really had enough gloves, and scarves and sweaters- etc. So I just got some velvet leggings for my girls.

I went back to check the next day everything was sold out- and I had looked at at least 20 items (even the leggings were all gone)!!! So the luxury buyers are buying in force. Just a data point for you.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc......is one of the country’s few retailers still boosting sales.

I would rather stand in front of a chalkboard and sharpen my finger nails than shop at WalMart at Christmas time.

The couple decided to not buy each other Christmas gifts for the first time in their 11 years of marriage

I made all my gifts and it was the most rewarding and stress free Christmas I have ever had. I will not go back! Two complete families I know stopped exchanging gifts and instead made contributions to troops in Iraq or Afghanistan - now that is the real meaning behind Christmas.
