If people had the straight truth about how the economy grows based on innovation, then they'd demand we invest more money in alternative energy. Unfortunately, people are afraid of change and that is natural. And folks like yourself prey on that fear to ensure that we change as little as possible. And again, unfortunately, that is a recipe for the stagnation of this country. Right now, there is no single thing we could do that could increase this country's prosperity more than invest in alternative energy. It has benefits on so many dimensions that it is a no-brainer.
