Yes, I do that while I'm looking for houses to rehab. Last time, I used the traditional VW Westfalia Camper Van. It had a lot to recommend it, but reliability wasn't part of the bargain.

It also taught me that you just don't NEED a toy stove, fridge, sink and pop up camper. All you need is enough room for an air mattress and a sleeping bag. A five gallon bucket with a lid serves as an emergency toilet. The way to think about this is like backpack camping out of a minivan with urban twists.

I plan to black out the rear windows with blackout curtains attached by velcro. That allows "stealth camping" in cities, as you won't alert anyone you are there when wirelessly computing, watching TV or reading at night.

There's a whole subculture of new Gypsies with knowledge to tap online, including experts on various cities.

In a city, an easy way to catch a shower and a workout is to go to a gym and ask for a tryout. I'll probably just join Gold's or 24 Hour Fitness, then I can just flash my card.
